This unique outdoor smart watch uses a Lithium-ion battery as its power source. It can be charged magnetically using the charging terminal that is included with your purchase.
The battery life can last you over 1 day with what Casio states as “normal use,” but with mixed use of the features and GPS, you are probably going to get a day or less out of it. This seems to be a problem with outdoor smart watches and thus far, nobody has really come up with a solution for Casio to make their battery life longer. This watch is supposed to be for outdoor use. If you cannot use the functions for more than a day, then multi-day camping and hiking trips are out of the question in terms of functionality.
The battery does last over 1 month between charges when it is in Timepiece Mode. This is because the time is displayed on the monochrome LCD layer screen which is low power and saves battery juice.
To recharge this watch, it only takes 2 hours at room temperature. If you are going on a multi-day outdoor event, we would suggest bringing a small power source that you can use to charge your watch via the magnetic charging terminal.
One of the many positive aspects to this watch is the easy to use button design. Made for the outdoors, these buttons are located on the right hand side of the watch case but do not jut out like a typical timepiece. These buttons are snag-free and include the: TOOL button, Power button, and the APP button. You can use these buttons in addition to the touch screen display to quickly and easily handle your control applications and functions.
The protection of this Pro Trek is also fantastic. The bezel is smooth as opposed to chunky, but is still the perfect design to protect your LCD display screen. The screen itself is protected by an anti-fouling coating, which allows the glace surface of the touch panel to repel dirt and make it less prone to becoming dirty. It also reduces fingerprint marks.
Since this watch includes a microphone for voice commands, this watch does not have the best water resistance but the microphone itself is rated water resistant to 50 meters. The strap is flexible, perfect for sports and outdoor wear, and will repel just about any environmental condition you can think of.
There is a dedicated mobile App that is compatible with both iOS and Android devices, and is designed to support your outdoor activities. The Android Wear App offers Gmail, Google Voice Search, Google Maps, Google Fit, and weather forecasts, among others.

The water resistance of these pair of Pro Trek Smart watches is 50 meters. There are timepieces out there that are intended for casual or dress use that offer at least 100 meters water resistance. It is somewhat disappointing that this outdoor watch is so durable, rugged, and geared for the outdoors but does not feature better water resistance.
As a watch made for the outdoors, the Pro Trek Smart watch uses energy-efficient GPS, which the user can see their position and route in full-color both online and via an offline map. The built-in low-power GPS supports data from three different satellites for perfect triangulation: American GPS, Russian GLONASS, and Japanese MICHIBIKI QZSS. These satellites triangulate your positioning data and displays your position on a full-color map that uses the LCD layer of your touch screen display.
The map supports map data downloads through a partnership with Mapbox, who offers worldwide map data. You can display your maps even with your smartphone offline. This is obviously a great feature because being outdoors such as in canyons, mountainous terrain, trails, and far-off locations, cell service likely cannot reach these areas.
The watch also features location memory and personalized map management. The link between the GPS and the full-color map will offer you an accurate display of your current location and allow you to see your route, activities, record our specified points, and more. Not only can you determine your exact location but you can display footprints of your actions and record markers on the map (or use voice input to make notes).
You can alter the actual map display in order to suit your purposes as well. Choose from: Dark, Light, Outdoors, Streets-Satellite, or Streets, depending on the activity you choose and your purpose.
This watch is water resistant up to 50 meters. I’m not too sure that the addition of the microphone for Google voice commands and voice notes is worth it, since the water resistance could have been much higher if they opted out of the microphone.
The sensors included in this watch include: pressure (air and altitude), an accelerometer, a gyrometer, and a magnetic compass sensor.
The GPS is low energy as is the Bluetooth V4.1, which helps to retain battery power, but in order to create a watch with a multi-day lifespan at mixed levels of usage, this outdoor Pro Trek Smart watch by Casio is going to need an upgrade in the battery department.
With a heavy duty protective case, a weather proof design, and a more energy efficient GPS system with an incredible display, this Pro Trek Smart Series watch is one of Casio’s finest new wearables.
This incredible Pro Trek Smart wearable features not only an energy efficient GPS which won’t drain your battery like it does mainstream smartwatches, but it also features a full color map that is available offline too!
The dual-layer LCD structure of the screen is incredible because it features both superimposed monochrome and color LCDs. The time will be displayed at all times via the monochrome LCD screen and the measurement data and applications will be on the superimposed color LCD. Using the two LCD screen for different purposes ensures excellent outdoor visibility. What is great about this feature is the time display in monochrome will save a ton of power while the high definition features can be used with applications and offline.
The watch also meets the MIL-STD-810G durability test standards as established by the U.S. Department of Defense. What this means is that this watch will operate normally when subjected to drops, vibrations, and other harsh events and is considered tough for outdoor conditions.
Finally, rather than getting the same watch faces as everybody else, this Android Wear smart watch gives you a variety of original watch faces to choose from based on your use and personal preferences.
The release date for the Orange WSD-F20-RG model and the Black WSD-F20-BK model is set for April 21, 2017. While you cannot yet buy it on pre-order and the price is not set, it has been estimated that this Casio Pro Trek Smart wearable will cost around $500.
This is extremely expensive and whether it is worth the price for a watch with rather poor battery life has remained to be seen.
